Classical Dance

India has 8 classical dance forms recognised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi: Bharatanatyam (Tamil Nadu), Kathak (North India), Odissi (Odisha), Kuchipudi (Andhra Pradesh), Kathakali (Kerala), Manipuri (Manipur), Mohiniyattam (Kerala), and Sattriya (Assam). Each traces its origins to Hindu temple traditions spanning 2,000+ years.
